| WILD BERRY CRAFT CENTRE started as a germ of an idea to have a craft centre filled with goods produced by our local people. It has been a long and interesting journey. Along the way we have met many interesting and colourful people who have enriched our lives and shown us many differing points of view. We have now come to the conclusion that crafting takes myriad forms to include skills to numerous to mention here but for example having tasted a superb tomato-chilli sauce made by a local farmer and worn a jersey which was knitted by our ladies from just over the way, we feel that the range is enormous. We have now opened our own pottery, Mhlongo Ceramics, with Albert our Local Potter. We are producing high quality pottery with our own unique style. Our designs draw heavily on the inspirations of the local Bushman Paintings, which can be found in the vicinity as well as the Fauna indigenous to the Drakensberg. We are also selling many other locally produced Arts & Crafts. These include; Beadwork, Basket Work, Paintings (on canvas, cloth, Ostrich Eggs etc.), Table Linen, Locally produced preserves, Wood Carvings and Knitted wear. This is a skills training project combined with a commercial enterprise and so in the process we will be helping our people to establish their own small business, mentoring our would be entrepreneurs in business skills. All the individual artists, crafter’s etc. are expected to pass on their skills. In this way we anticipate not only keeping these skills from being lost but also create employment. Mpofana is a truly cosmopolitan area encompassing many traditions and cultures. By using local people we are able to bring to a truly South African mix to the centre ensuring variety for all tastes and budgets. Situated on the R103 Giants Castle Rd. and only 10 minutes from the N3, we are easily accessible from either Johannesburg or Durban. Come and pay us a visit, we are sure you will enjoy the experience.
